A Message from Miglena

As I look at the colours of fall overtaking our Canadian landscape and exploding in vibrant beauty, I am reminded yet again of what a rich community we live and work in, and how fortunate we are for the opportunity! 

Since starting my term at AMA Toronto, I continue to reflect on diversity and what it means for this organization. This past month AMA headquarters, through the new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce, created a pledge that all global AMA Chapters have been invited to take. Taking this pledge provides our leadership team the opportunity to reflect on how its key concepts can be translated into decisive action.  We genuinely believe marketing has the power to make a real difference. As innovators, strategists, ambassadors and storytellers, we shape narratives that can communicate value, create meaning, and help establish societal norms. This is not only a moral imperative – it’s also good for business, as it allows us to adopt new approaches to better communicate to an increasingly diverse global marketplace! I am excited about the possibilities this presents, and will have more to share on that soon.

At AMA Toronto, we've had a very busy September, kicking off the Legendary Leadership event series with newly inducted marketing legends Joe Jackman and Morris Saffer on September 16. On September 30th, our MNG TikTok event - with special appearance by TikTok Group Director Vanessa Gaik - showed us not only how to leverage the platform for brands, but also to network with a truly global audience of marketers! Watch for the blog and summary of take-aways coming soon.

On October 1st, I had the privilege to help launch the 11th season of our Mentor Exchange Program. This industry-leading program – with over 550 alumnae and more than 150 returning mentors – matches top Canadian marketing executives and business leaders with the next generation of marketing talent. Watch out for our blog summarizing key messages from Co-Chairs Craig Lund and David Kincaid. With mentorship being such an essential component for personal and professional growth, I am so proud of this program and the value it provides our community.

I am also happy to have our AMA Toronto Chapter as an official member of Ad Standards! This new partnership will provide more resources to our community to help encourage continued support in advertising self-regulation in Canada, so that Canadian advertising continues to be truthful, fair, and accurate.

October will bring more opportunities for us to engage. Mark your calendars for our monthly networking event on October 28th. This week, as I rush to participate in amazing sessions from AMA Marketing Week in between a busy time at work, I am truly grateful to be part of this remarkable, engaged, trend-setting global organization. 
And I am happy that through AMA Toronto, we continue to focus on and contribute to building an essential and inclusive community of marketers! 

On that note, I wanted to personally thank you for the role you play in engaging with us and inspiring us to work, along with our 70+ volunteers, to continue to deliver thought-provoking programming and increased value to your AMA Toronto experience.
